Choosing a Battery Powered Lawnmower

There are many things you need to think about before you choose a lawnmower, and when you choose a battery powered lawnmower you need to make sure that you take these following three things into consideration. The three essential things are: battery life, battery charging time, and battery weight. By making sure you get these three things right you will be able to find a lawnmower that will do justice to your lawn and will be a pleasure to use.

Battery life is very important because the last thing you want is to have to recharge the battery every few days, something which is even more important if you tend to use the mower quite a lot. You need to check that the battery will at least last for several mows of the lawn, so that you know the power will not run out during the middle of mowing the lawn sometime.

Next to this importance is the actual battery charging time, because you want the battery to be charged as quickly as possible. If a battery takes longer than a few hours to be fully charged you may find that the battery will not be charged in time before your next mowing.

But perhaps more important than the previous two considerations is the actual weight of the battery. This is because the weight of the battery will have a great effect on the actual weight of the lawnmower itself, and if the battery is extremely heavy you may find that the lawnmower is difficult to handle and move around easily. It always makes sense to ensure that the battery is as light as possible.

Take time to bear the three considerations in mind and you should be able to find a battery powered lawnmower that will be just right for you.

Residential Metal Roofing Contractors - Be Careful in Your Choice

Residential metal roofing is available in aluminum, copper, steel and stainless steel, and tin. You may actually have an easier time selecting which type of residential metal roofing you want than you will locating a roofer to install it. Your choice of residential metal roofing material will depend on a number of factors, including your budget, the climate in your area, and whether or not you are near salt water, factories which release pollutants into the air, or receive lots of rain. You can't control any of those things, but you can choose the residential metal roofing which will best tolerate your local conditions.

But how can you find a residential metal roofing contractor?

Cowboy Contractors and the Metal Roofing Alliance No matter how anxious you are to get your residential metal roofing installed, you should never succumb to the temptation to hire a freelance, or "cowboy" roofing contractor. A roofing contractor who does things his own way almost certainly does them by cutting corners, and a responsible roofer will dislike poor roofing work even more than the customer who has to live with it. Responsible roofing contractors are committed to policing themselves and to complying with all local and state roofing ordinances.

You can find reliable professional metal roofing contractors in your area by contacting the Metal Roofing Alliance. You'll find their website at http://www.metalroofing.com. The Metal Roofing Alliance is a group comprised of metal roofers and contractors, and metal roofing material producers, suppliers, and distributors committed to assisting homeowners in their searches for the best roofers and residential metal roofing for their projects.

The Metal Roofing Alliance was established in 1998, as an attempt by a few dedicated roofing professionals to improve the reputation of their industry. Over the past decade they have grown tremendously, and their easy-to-navigate website has all the information any homeowner will need regarding residential metal roofing.

Other Sources Of Information

You can also turn to family members and friends who have had residential roofing work done for their advice on choosing a residential metal roofing contractor. And don't forget your bank, which probably has the names of several home improvement experts, including residential metal roofing contractors.

Once you've lined up a meeting with a residential metal Roofing contractor, prepare a list of questions to ask during your interview. If the contractor seems to be hedging his answers, or not making them easy to understand, look for someone else. It's your money, after all, and you have every right to know how and why your residential metal roofing contractor intends to spend it! And always get a written estimate before you hire anyone!

Credit Hope - Tips For Credit Repair

No matter what your current credit situation, there are always things you can do to repair your credit. Even little credit repair items can make a difference to your score.

Tip #1: Review your accounts with each credit bureau. Get a free copy of your credit report from each of the 3 major reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) once a year. Review the accounts with each agency to see which ones are in need of credit repair. If you notice that one or all of the agencies as left out an account that would reflect positively on your report, you can contact them to have them verify that account and add it to your credit report. You can even dispute items online.

Tip #2: Look at the balance to high credit for each account Creditors and lenders like to see variety in the type of debt you carry. If you carry most of your debt in revolving accounts, for example, consider adding a different line of credit, such as an installment account.

Tip #3: Pay all of your bills on time Did you know that your bill payment history on things like rent and utilities can affect your credit rating? One of the most important steps you can take to improve your overall financial health and credit at the same time is to create a budget you can stick to, and get your bills paid in full and on time each month.

Tip #4: Negotiate with creditors Sometimes creditors will sometimes take less than what is owed on a debt to clear it off of their books. When you negotiate a settlement make sure as part of the settlement you have the creditor put in writing that the account is paid as agreed. This single tip alone will help you along your path toward credit repair. If you've got a relatively good history with your creditors, you're in a position to negotiate for better terms. All it takes is a phone call. Tell them you want to know if you can work out a lower interest rate for your card, and that you may take your business elsewhere if they can't oblige. In conclusion, there are many steps you can take on your own to fix the bad things showing up on you credit report. All it takes is some time and persistence on your part to follow up to make sure the creditors are correcting the mistakes on your accounts.

How to Repair Windows XP and Vista Registry Corruption

There is an old article floating around online that claims registry cleaners are unneeded and in fact, a useless tool for computer repair and maintenance. As far as I am concerned, nothing could be further from the truth. It is my position no PC owner should be without one good registry cleaner!

In this article, I will argue in favor of registry cleaners and show how I use them to overcome registry corruption. This registry corruption will slow a computer's operating capabilities and possibly make a PC not only very slow and error prone, but sometimes inoperable.

Normal Computer Use Will Cause Registry Corruption

Registry corruption exists and registry cleaners fix this corruption. I know this because I make a living repairing broken computers and I have seen corruption bring a computer to its knees. I have used registry cleaners many times to remove corruption and get these badly performing computers back up and speeding down the information highway again.

I seen more cases than I can count where a computer started to crash frequently or become very slow and when this happened it was caused by corruption in the registry. When this happens, there is no other viable plan of action other than to use a registry cleaner so this computer will once again operate normally.

New OS's Need To Be Corruption Free

It is true, registry corruption wasn't very much of a consideration a few years back. However, now with the huge file systems Windows XP and Vista operate under, it takes a long times for one operation to take place when it has to work through corruption. I know this may not make sense, but one piece of corruption will probably only affect a small area of a small operating system. However, the same amount of corruption will affect many areas in a large operating system. That is just the way it is.

Registry corruption will cause a computer to slow down. Sometimes this slowing down can be quite significant. Registry corruption will also cause errors and crashes. These things seem to mock the presence of spyware or viruses. Still, corruption must be dealt with when it is present.

You Have to Get Rid of Corruption Somehow!

I'd like to know what anybody who doesn't use registry cleaners does when they run into problems with their computers that are caused by registry corruption, because I've seen a good registry cleaner solve problems with poorly functioning computers 100's of times!

So when a computer is not performing properly and it is shown to be free of viruses and spyware, the next thing you should do is scan the registry. Many times I have seen cases where a computer is operating very poorly and there are no incidents of spyware or viruses and turns it out the registry is full of corruption.

Of course, if there is no registry corruption, you will have to bring the computer to a professional. However, I have fixed many a sick computer with a registry cleaning, so I suggest you make sure you have no corruption before you bring your computer to somebody like me.

You've learned a lot about registry cleaners and why to avoid free ones. Now see how all the top registry cleaners rate against one another at Hiel Strassman's: Registry Fix Reviews. Also, get more inside information on registry cleaners at: Registry Cleaner.

Installing Roof Yourself? - Two Important Factors

If you're looking for "installing roof" information, you've come to the right place. The first thing to determine is: When does it make sense to do it yourself... and when could it be a big mistake? There are two important factors for your consideration...

Installing Roof Yourself? - Factor #1: Safety

Some projects are inherently more dangerous than others. The main risk factors are the slope, the height and the condition of the roof surface. Slopes up to 6:12 are relatively easy to walk on and work on. Anything above that is increasingly difficult to do safely.

One-story roofs are safer than those that are two stories or more. And roof surfaces which are solid and offer sure footing, are much safer than rotted roof decks and slippery roofing. Asphalt shingles are usually pretty safe to walk on compared to metal, tile or wood shakes.

Be especially wary if your roof has multiple risk factors. For example, if your roof is steep, slippery and two or three stories high, it could be a big mistake trying to roof it yourself. Any money you save, will quickly evaporate if you end up in the hospital and unable to work for months due to an injury.

Installing Roof Yourself? - Factor #2: Complexity

A simple hip or gable roof with a few pipes and vents is a project many homeowners could handle. But a complicated design with numerous valleys, skylights, chimneys and other fussy flashing details is much more challenging for a do-it-yourselfer. Even pros who do this work every day have trouble getting these things right.

But if you take the time to learn the details, there's no reason you can't do a good job. What you lack in experience, you can more than make up for in dedication to the task at hand.

If you're going to do-it-yourself, there's a lot more "installing roof" information you need to know. To make the job easier and help you avoid big mistakes, go to: http://www.roofingsecrets.com

Resolving Home Remodeling Anxiet

Causes of Roof Damage and Preventative Measures

What is the most important part of your home? The foundations, the walls, the interior; all are important, but the roof is probably top of the list. The roof not only keeps the elements out, it protects the walls and foundations from internal water damage, so it must be kept in tiptop condition. Roofs are weaker than the walls they protect and are prone to similar causes of damage and defects. Here are a few of these causes and some helpful tips on how to prevent them.

Lack of Maintenance

Few of us venture up a ladder or climb out of a skylight to check our roof's condition. It's a specialised job, and there are good reasons to get a maintenance check carried out on a regular basis, especially when seasons of inclement weather approach. Roofing jobs can be expensive, but with periodic checks, the chance of bigger, more expensive, surprise repairs will be reduced. Try using binoculars to get a general view of the roof's condition. This is a good way to spot loose tiles or slates, gutter or flashing damage. If there is minor damage, call a professional roofing company to not only carry out repairs, but also to assess the extent of the damage. Even a small amount of damage allows in rain, which can cause serious harm to the roof's structure, and a small problem can soon turn into a major repair.

Wear and Tear

Like anything that is exposed to the elements, roofs suffer wear and tear from natural causes. Wind, rain, hail, ice, and sunlight all affect roofing materials differently. Hail is particularly damaging, acid or polluted rain can cause erosion, and houses close to industrial areas are susceptible to damage from air pollution.

Excessive heat and UV rays from sunlight can cause roofs, especially wooden, to deteriorate. Some tiles have a UV protective coating, but over time this erodes, and further UV ray exposure coupled with heat dries out and weakens the tiles. So after a spell of hot weather inspect the roof for heat damage such as curled tiles or blistering.

Different roofing materials are affected in different ways. For example, hail causes more damage to clay tiled and wooden roofs, but certain "hail resistant" materials such as concrete and metal can add better protection for longer.

Melting and freezing snow on roofs causes what is known as an "ice dam" which causes reservoirs of water which seeps under tiles leading to serious damage underneath the surface. This can be prevented by either laying a protective membrane under the roofing material or installing heating cables in the eaves.

Roofs are especially prone to wind damage. Aside from blowing off loose or broken roof components, high winds cause changes in air pressure in and around the roof, lifting off tiles, ridging and flashing. Before seasonal high winds, it's advisable to have the roof checked by a professional roofer and any weak spots repaired before minor damage becomes major damage.

Even in times of clement weather roofs can sustain damage. Falling objects from nearby buildings, birds and small animals, and falling branches from trees all can cause minor damage which often cannot be safeguarded against. Yet another reason to have your roof inspected regularly by a trustworthy professional roofer.

Advantages Framing With Steel

Damp Proofing and Repairing Walls

For damp-proofing a brick foundation wall, heavy penetrating bituminous damp-proofing paint may be used, after which a cement mortar coat may be troweled directly on the painted surface, to prevent the paint from flaking and peeling.

The application of a coating of any material upon the inner surfaces of a wall such as a home sauna that is pervious to the sauna steam is generally ineffective. Infrared saunas need no such coating anyway.

This should be made of 1 part Portland cement and 3 parts of well graded sand mixed with as little water as practicable. The mortar should be applied to the dampened wall after the leakage through the wall has stopped. The finished coat should be kept damp for a week after it has set to increase its water-tightness.

Fresh air and sunshine are essential to a dry cellar, and to this end plenty of window space should be provided. When the air out of doors is cool and dry, open the windows freely. When there is dampness without, keep the windows closed, as warm, moist air results in mildew and condensation of moisture upon the colder surfaces within the cellar. A little care in these respects will aid materially in maintaining a dry cellar.

When there is dampness within, such as in bathrooms, windows should be kept open. Shower doors are not enough to protect against steam shower condensation. They do a fabulous job of keeping water inside, but steam will inevitably get out.

Cracks or fissures in foundation walls and the falling out of mortar from between joints may be attributed to various causes. Cracks between mortar and the material to which it was originally bonded may be caused by shrinkage of the mortar during setting, or soon thereafter, or by the expansion of mortar through saturation.

Often the volume change of the mortar is greater than the material to which it is bonded and sets up a movement that destroys the bond. If the walls are built on ground that will not support an equal weight at all points, uneven settlement may cause cracks to develop. An underground spring or flowing water under one corner or section of a foundation may produce similar results.

Small cracks thus started may become larger in time from action of the weather and other forces. Frost has a tendency to attack weak spots, and expansion and contraction, due to extremities of heat and cold, do their part in increasing the damage. Water seeping through the cracks gradually wears away the material and causes it to crumble and fall apart. The disintegration is generally more rapid in mortar joints.

The results of these failures are far-reaching and, if not remedied, may result in further damage, not only to the walls themselves but to the structure they support. A cellar will probably become damp and unsanitary if these inlets for moisture are not stopped up. There can also be drippage from the bathroom to rooms below, due to a leaky bathtub or bathroom faucet.

If the walls are otherwise in good condition, minor cracks and places where mortar has fallen out may be repaired by an unskilled workman. However, if a wall is badly cracked, crumbled and beyond the aid of minor repairs, it may be necessary to engage an experienced workman to reconstruct all or part of the wall.

Oh God The Contractor From Hell

Roof Repair Or Roof Replacement?

Here is the scenario that many homeowners have been in: The roof is leaking, it's been on for 12 years and this isn't the first time you've dealt with it leaking. The question going through your head is: Should I repair or replace my roof?

There are several points to consider when trying to make this decision and keep in mind that no two roofs are the same. So while there are general guidelines you can follow to help you decide, keep in mind that you know your roof the best and whether there are other considerations that you should make such as if you know that the roof was not installed properly.

Special Considerations:

If more then 30 percent of the entire roof is damaged, or if there is extensive moisture damage to either the existing roofing layer or the structural deck, you should consider replacing the entire roof.

If your roof damage occurred as a result of a storm such as a tornado or hurricane, then you should certainly consider replacing the entire roof. In these situations, there are is often damage that you cannot see and it's important to go ahead and replace the roof. Safety for you and your family is the most important factor.

Is there a pre- existing condition on your roof that would make it beneficial to go with a full roof replacement?

Consider replacement if:
You think your roof has a faulty design
Improper material was used while constructing the roof
There were past problems with mold or algae growth

Factors to consider:

Interior Walls- Two sure signs of major roof repair are if the walls and ceilings in your home have moisture marks and if the paint on your walls and ceilings are peeling.

Torn or Missing Shingles- Torn or missing shingles could be caused by many variables from heavy sun to tree branches being improperly removed from the roof. Sometimes torn or missing shingles are a sign of a simple roof repair but there are times that it is the clue that there are more serious roof issues. It's always important to consult with a skilled roofing contractor who can help you determine the severity of the problem.

Roof Layers- If you have more than 3 layers on your roof and are again experiencing problems then it's time to replace.

Roof Age- If you have an asphalt shingled roof of good quality material and installation than it should last between 15-20 years. If your roof is over 12 years and experiencing roof leaks associated with other roofing problems too then you should seriously consider replacement.

Now there is a great new method of creating the size, the shape, and the color of your landscape rocks and stones to fit perfectly into your landscaping design. Everyone loves the peaceful serenity of a waterfall, now you can create your own quiet and tranquil setting at home.

Artificial rock is now curbing the rock and stone business to accommodate the weekend warriors, who just want to spice up their landscape and not spend a fortune on the materials.

Landscape rock has always involved heavy lifting and difficult placement. Most of the time a landscaper has to work around the rock work that's in place or settle for what they can manage to do with large landscape rock. This is remarkably easy to do and the build time is virtually a couple of days for a large project. The time savings alone is priceless.

A new application has been made to create a cave-like project for the kids or grandkids and show off your new found skills. This will surely impress the family, once you tell them you are a cave builder.

Doubling as a kid's cave, CaveRock Design's process also allows the victory gardener to create a place to store the daily gardening tools or a place to put your tools away from the elements and keep them handy as well.

Prior to CaveRock Design's formula, the only place you would find this type of artificial rock formations would be at miniature golf course or a theme-park. Now when you see those picture perfect artificial rocks, and waterfalls, you can say, I can create my own artificial rocks, boulders, or stones, to make the perfect landscape design and create my very own backyard waterfall.

Landscaping a Hilly Backyard

If your house is on a hill side then the idea of designing a backyard can be quite challenging. Although you need one desperately, the work that needs to be put in to get this done may be far more than if your house had been on a flat area. However, this is not something that cannot be overcome. We need to understand the details of the area and what it requires to get that beautiful looking landscape right in our backyard.

One thing that needs to be certainly done is to get the area ready for the purpose. Clear it of any rags and other things and ensure that all the obstacles are cleared. If possible get it leaned using external services.

Next, you need to make sure that the soil does not get eroded in the long term. Use a heavy layer of mulch to prevent erosion. Greass grows efficiently on this and therefore the erosion will be prevented. Another advantage is that this helps retain water which is especially difficult for the soil and plants on the slopes.

Once you are done with the groundwork, look at the beautification aspects. think of vibrant colors when you want flowers and plants in your garden. Be ready to experiment and this should come as no surprise to your neighbors when they try and match your personality with your garden. In other words, your personality should be reflected in the garden you create. If you are not a very vibrant person, then this may be the right time to change as well. Just kidding!

Look out for ideas and sources that will provide you the information. Build interesting props and objects into your landscape designs. These will also help give new dimensions and make the place look exciting. Use your creativity to widen the possibilities. You should be able to surprise your visitors with your creativity levels. Its not difficult, you only need to start thinking on those lines.

A good idea if you are designing hilly landscapes is to build a retaining wall as this adds to the beauty significantly. You would only understand the value it provdies after the project is completed. So it is important to do your research right in the begining. Once you have a good plan, you will have little hassles in making it a success.

These tips should help come up with a few landscaping ideas for hilly terrains. Be ready to experiment and let your creativity flow. If that is not enough dont be afraid to seek proifessional advice on building your landscape plan and executing it successfully.

Long Dryer Vent Problems

Self Repair in Our Social View

Life is not like a box of Chocolates. There are a lot of pitfalls in this modern social climate, and biting into things randomly is not often a sweet experience. We might wish that things really are as they were for Forest Gump, or wish that we were dumb enough (or smart enough) to let the harshness slide.

I feel that the best parts of the forty three years of my life have been when I have been able to help others feel what I wish that I could feel more consistently. I truly believe that it is possible to be sincere with other sincere people and to gather great happiness and joy from that experience. Unfortunately, there is a lot of pressure on people, myself included, to be insincere and predatory. Some resist that pressure voraciously, but if we're honest, we're sometimes less than pleased with our own behavior.

In saying that, I do not mean to imply that I'm an unscrupulous bastard. I do not believe that to be the case at all. I've certainly helped more people in my life than I've hurt, but there has been the odd occasion where-in someone has been negatively impacted through some direct influence that has come their way in my name. We all almost certainly share that aberrant occasion or two. We don't choose to believe that any damage inflicted was deliberate on our part, and that position is heartfelt, but when we look ourselves square in the mirror, we have to answer to ourselves honestly about those rare scenarios. Can we? Asking that question makes me uncomfortable because I need to explain, and explaining can sound like excuses, and excuses usually indicate guilt.

So, what is a good focus in life? Being kind, being helpful, and being sincere. It must be that simple. Is that position some kind of weak penance for the mistakes of the past? I don't think so. For me, I think that position is as realistic now as it was when I was twenty.

My father always told me that cynicism was directly proportionate to age. That's what I call a cynical view of things. Events in life are not always under our control. They can jerk crazily askew suddenly without our conscious intent, and when that happens, they have the potential to damage everyone in proximity, including us. Events in the lives of others have done that to me without the conscious intention of the relevant party. I've normally found in not difficult at all to divorce them from any pre-meditated negative intentions. I do find it harder to excuse myself however, when the same dynamic emanates from me in hurting other people. That's probably the way it should be.

In the wake of the bad thing that happen, I hope that one thing stands out as clear with regard my own persona. That one thing is this, and it is quite important to me. I do not ever want to look at my fellow man as immaterial. I want to impute respect even where it seems not deserved or due. I want to exalt the condition of the sentient being and show kindness, helpfulness, and support where-ever I go.

The human personality with its advanced attributes is a majestic and exalted phenomenon that should always be protected by sincerity. What other protection is there than that? I really agonize over the possibility that in my life I have failed to be true to that precept. In this expression I hope to engender a passionate commitment to the concept in others as well.

Simple is as simple does, but the box of chocolates is too simple. Let's take life seriously and give homage to our amazing nature. Let's commit to never hurting each other and to admitting that this takes some deliberate, conscious effort in the complicated time within which we live. I love Forest Gump, but I wouldn't put a lot of stock in his advise.

How Cosmetic Dentists Repair Damaged Teeth and Fix Smiles

Whether you have a tooth flawed by a small chip or damaged with extensive decay, you need to get it fixed. The big question is how. A cosmetic dentist has several options to choose from including veneers and dental implants. The treatment used will depend on the location of the damaged tooth, the type of damage, and the cost of the treatment.

Veneers

Teeth exhibiting wear, chips, or breaks are ideal candidates for veneers. Discoloration, gaps, or those that are shorter than the others can also benefit from this treatment. The cosmetic dentist will examine the tooth and take an x-ray to get an accurate look at any damage that may be present and an idea of how best to fix it. The dental expert then removes any decay and files a half millimeter of enamel off the tooth. You will need to have an impression taken of the tooth that goes to a special lab where the 'false cover' is made.

Once the porcelain covers come back from the lab, the dental expert cleans, dries, and coats the tooth with specialized cement. He covers the tooth with the veneer, ensuring it is in place. Finally, a special light cures the cement before removing any excess materials, softening any sharp edges, and checking your bite.

Bonding

Instead of being premade, the cosmetic dentist can complete this treatment usually in one appointment and without the need for a lab. The dental expert removes any decay and roughens the surface of the enamel like any other treatment. Then, he paints the composite resin on the tooth, curing it between layers. Once the material is built up heavy enough on the tooth, it's filed and buffed into a natural shape that matches the rest of your smile. Unfortunately, this treatment is that it isn't as resilient to pressure or wear as veneers are.

Dental Implants

In cases where the tooth is beyond saving, you will need an extraction and dental implant. After the damaged tooth is removed, the cosmetic dentist will insert a metal post into the gums. Depending on your jaw structure and the number of teeth removed, you can have different styles of posts, have a partial bridge, or numerous dental implants instead.

You then need to wait for the area to heal and for the bone to grow around the metal. In the meantime, the expert will have the lab make a 'false tooth' out of metal, porcelain, or ceramic. When the post for the dental implant has healed, the dentist will add a connector and the false tooth. They last approximately 20 years and are far more resistant when it comes to normal actions such as chewing.

Whether you need dental implants in Miami, or veneers in Los Angeles, there is hope for damaged teeth that will inevitably detract from your looks and deteriorate your health. If you have a tooth that has damaged or just doesn't look right, talk to your cosmetic dentist to find a treatment that suits you best.

Christine O'Kelly is an author for Miami Beach Dentistry, the leading Miami veneers providers. They offer dental implants in Miami as well as a full line of general and cosmetic dentist treatments to patients of all ages.

Metal Roof Colors - Expanding Your Options

With the choices and advancements in metal roofing, companies are now able to offer consumers a vast array of metal roof colors to complement their homes exterior paint choice. Colors are usually offered from the factory and can be selected at the same time you are picking out your roofing material. Most colors come directly from the factory as such. At the factory level, there are many different ways that paint can be applied so be sure to inquire about what methods they use.

The most beneficial is when the paint is treated with something called a clear fluoropolymer resin. This is a resin that's original purpose was to stop corrosion inside of steel pipes utilized in chemical plants. Eventually, someone determined that it also helped to block the detrimental effects of ultraviolet light on a surface's paint, resulting in paint fade. Because of this, the primer will help your roof's paint maintain its original beauty for many years to come. It has been reported that metal roofing covered in the fluoropolymer resin will still be 85 percent of its original color after 20 years of being exposed to the elements. If you're looking for a solution that you won't have to repaint for decades, this is a clear standout. Also, some companies even offer warranties on their metal roof colors so be sure to see if one is offered with yours.

When selecting a color for your roof, make sure it's one that is neutral enough that you will enjoy it for many years to come. Take into account the color of your home and make sure that the house and metal roof colors are harmonious with one another. Most metal roofing supplies can also help you make this decision so don't be afraid to seek their input. Often, a roof's color is something that gets overlooked when someone is painting their house, or in this case, installing a new color roof so it's best to make sure they last. Also, request samples of metal roof colors from the manufacturer instead of relying on your computer monitor. Some colors come out displayed differently on computers so it's a way to be sure you are getting the color you want.

If you live in a covenant controlled neighborhood, check with your home owner's association or governing body about the particulars of metal roof colors as well. Some may have stipulations pertaining to what colors are allowed and banned or you may just have to go through a process of getting your choice approved. If you do have to get it approved, make sure you understand the process necessary. Be sure to visit our website to find local contractors and to learn more about metal roofing.

The Art of Bonsai Trimming

Even though bonsai trees are famous the world over, there are still many person who do not know about these miniature plants that derive their name from a Chinese word 'pun-sai'. Though this word originated nearly a thousand years ago, it was the Zen Buddhists of Japan who made it popular world wide. The bonsai plants range between a few inches to approximately 2 feet in height and are exact replicas of other plants except that all things are scaled down in size.

Hence you should not be surprised to see an orange bonsai tree bearing tiny orange fruits that taste and look like real oranges apart from the fact that they are much smaller in size than the original oranges. While general plants do not require too much of attention and trimming, it is different for bonsai trees ad they have to be looked after carefully. In order to maintain its neat appearance, the bonsai plants need to be trimmed from time to time and it is here that a certain level of experience and expertise is required. If you observe the nimble hands of people who know how to trim bonsai properly, while they are trimming the bonsai tree, you will feel as if they are conducting a work of art, like painting.

They use special tools like `wen' to trim their bonsai trees. This particular instrument has a small and sharp cutting head, shaped like the beak of a parrot. This ensures that just a small mark is made on the bark while cutting off unnecessary branches. This small cut, in the shape of a dimple, does not take long to heal and does not cause damage to the bonsai plant. Apart from that trimming a bonsai plant is very important to maintain its clean looks. If one does not take care of them and does not trim them regularly, it gets full of foliage which looks ugly. There are many specific things to remember about when planning to trim bonsai trees and this includes a proper season.

While trimming a bonsai tree, you should stand at a distance away from the same and look at. This way you will be able to find out the spots that are looking unnatural and that need to be trimmed. Once you have identified the spot, go ahead and trim it and after trimming a bit, go back and observe the bonsai plant again. A properly trimmed bonsai plant should look like an object of art from a distance. Apart from branches, one also needs to trim the dead leaves of the bonsai plant and here too, several methods are employed and they depend upon the type of bonsai plant you are trimming. Whatever you do, it is advisable to use extreme caution while trimming a bonsai trees since they are very delicate and might get damaged easily. There are illustrated books available on bonsai trimming and you might go through one of them for in-depth knowledge.

In this short article, we discussed only one aspect of bonsai care: bonsai trimming. If you want to learn more about bonsai care, visit our website.

Credit Repair - Dealing With Debt Collectors

Dealing with debt collectors is an art - just as is the way that they attempt to deal with you. Your credit rating is important, and they know that. Professional debt collectors spend every day using techniques that are proven to get results for them. They will hone in on your apparent weaknesses if you show any. It is your credit rating at stake any time that you are dealing with a debt collector. So, let's learn how to handle these aggressive money mongers:

The first issue at hand is for you to understand your rights. This will enable you to ensure that the debt collector that you may find yourself faced with stays within the fair limits that are in place to dictate their behavior. Check out the website for the Federal Trade Commission and get a copy of the free brochure that they provide for download. You can also call the National Consumer Law Center at 617-542-9595 to get a copy of "What You Should Know about Debt Collection".

You need to have your bills prioritized. Regardless of what any debt collector tells you, your first priority needs to be the basic necessities of your family. All other debts can be negotiated and dealt with.

Assess your financial situation, see what you are comfortably able to pay - and then offer less. Remember that nothing is set in stone when it comes to debt negotiation. That's the whole point of negotiating. The debt collector has freedom to move or they wouldn't waste their time talking. They get paid on commission for what they collect in a given time period. For them, collecting something is always better than collecting nothing.

Do not offer any information that is not specifically requested. Debt collectors will show no sympathy or empathy for your situation anyway. Keep your personal information personal. Do not discuss your employment. Do not give out your banking information. Stick strictly to financial negotiating.

Stay calm and retain your laser sharp focus towards the matter at hand. Do not allow yourself to be shaken. The debt collector is just another human being. Who is to say that other debt collectors will not be calling him when he gets home tonight? When you appear strong and unshakable, you will greatly increase your odds of getting what you want out of the negotiation.

Always realize that you are the key element in the negotiation. At the end of the day, the debt is still yours to deal with - regardless of the amount of moaning that a given debt collector may do. Without your cooperation, the debt collector collects nothing and has therefore wasted his or her time. Be cordial and demand the same. Let them know that they are dealing with an individual that cannot just be pushed around.

Dealing with debt collectors doesn't have to be a taxing event. Just remember who is really in control of your finances.

Registry Repair

Before going any further, recognize that registry repair is serious business. If done improperly, your computer may not run at all.

What is the registry in your computer anyway? The registry is a database where certain vital information is stored. Hardware and software configuration - how to set up the hardware and software - is stored in the registry User preferences are stored in the registry as is setup information. As an example of user settings: if you change the wallpaper (background) on your desktop, a change is made in the registry Whenever you make changes to control panel settings, or install new hardware, or install new software, the registry stores the new settings.

Registry problems arise over time. You can compare the registry to a ship which has been in a harbor for a long time. Barnacles build up on the ship, and that's like what happens to the registry Why? Sometimes you uninstall a program but the uninstall operation leaves entries in the registry Your anti-virus or anti-spyware program may delete the program containing the virus or spyware but may not delete the registry entries for those programs. With normal operation some programs don't clean up after themselves properly and debris builds up. Files in the registry may get moved. The registry for one reason or another, may duplicate entries. Your registry gets bloated and swamped and your computer slows down. If you are frequently adding and removing programs from your computer, you are a prime candidate for registry problems.

When is it time to consider repairing the registry? The quick and dirty answer is: only as a last resort. You have to be like a doctor analyzing a patient's symptoms and trying to diagnose the illness. Your computer is running slowly. It crashes or shuts down without warning. In the middle of using a program, the computer freezes and you can't do anything to get control back. Certain programs don't run the way they're supposed to. Error messages crop up when you run certain programs. At odd times the screen goes blue (the techies call this BSOD- the blue screen of death) and may show unintelligible language. The computer just isn't running normally. Those are the symptoms. What's the disease? Could be one of a number of things or it could be a combination of things. Before doing anything else, make sure your anti-virus program is up to date and have it check for viruses. If your computer still misbehaves, it's time to clean the registry.

The registry is huge and complex, and in the past registry repair was best left to experts. Uber-techies can use programs that are built into the computer, go into the registry find out what's wrong and correct it. This is dangerous business. If you don't know what you're doing, or you are careless and make an incorrect entry, you will create major, big-time problems. There is software specially designed to clean and repair the registry so a novice without any technical knowledge can do registry repair easily and safely. Just run the programs. They are written by experts and will do the job properly and give you peace of mind.

Air Conditioner Repair

Most problems that people face with air conditioners can be solved by simple maintenance and cleaning. A regular cleaning of the air conditioner grille and filter helps to increase its longevity and make it more efficient at cooling. Sometimes particle aggregation inside the air filter chokes the ducts and makes the air conditioner ineffective. This can be solved by a simple cleaning of the air filter.

The common problems with air conditioners are faulty cooling, collection of water pools below the air conditioner, rattling sounds when the unit is shutting down, dysfunctional temperature control, etc. Some of these problems can be repaired by the owners themselves without calling for technical help. The air conditioner manual carries solutions to minor problems which can be easily implemented.

Before attempting Air Conditioner Repairs, it is most important to turn the power off. Removing the grille is an easy task, but care should be taken if the fan is attached to the grille as in some central cooling systems. Also, no wires should come loose while removing the grille and disconnecting the fan. If there are any wires connecting the fan to the main board, their sequence should be remembered so that they can be reconnected later.

Sometimes the air conditioner may not turn on at all due to a tripped or a broken fuse. The fuse is simple enough to be replaced by anyone. Instructions to replace fuses are mentioned in the manual. Hence, before calling a technician, it is advisable to check if there is a fuse problem.

Another common problem is the accumulation of water under the front portion of the air conditioner. This may be due to leakage of one of the ducts. Simple replacement solves the problem and instructions are mentioned in the manual.

Problems with thermostats are trickier to solve. Thermostat problems cause the air conditioner to cool the room unexpectedly. Even the heat pump may cause unexpected temperature swings if it is broken down. Thermostats and heat pumps should only be repaired by skilled technicians from the companies themselves.

Air Conditioner Repair is not a very difficult task, but people who are not confident with electrical appliances may contact the company to send their technicians. Technicians from the same company should be preferred over other repairmen.

Tub Faucet Repair Tips

The bathroom is a very important part of your home as it is with the other areas. Here, you get to have warm baths and doing some vanity for yourself. In the bathroom, you will find different bathroom fixtures such as tub and shower faucets. Over time, you might experience damages in your bathroom fixtures and the first thing you can do is to fix such fixtures.

There are many do-it-yourself tips that you can use at home especially for the bathroom. One of which is tub faucet repair. You can fix this by just simple and easy steps. Before anything else, it is just best that you get to know the different things needed in tub faucet repair.

Faucet Designs

Tub faucets have different styles and designs. There are tub faucets that have a single handle that is very convenient as this already controls the temperature and the water flow coming out of the faucet. On the other hand, there is also a double handle type of faucet where in the hot and the cold temperature is done separately using the two handles. To choose which type of faucet you want, it is better that you imagine yourself turning the lever. If you are someone who wants to have two controls for temperature then you better choose to have double lever type faucet handles. There are different designs available for tub faucets nowadays and all you just need to do is to mix and match it with the style of your bathroom. It is recommended that you buy fixtures all from one manufacturer to ensure synchronization of fixture designs.

What Are Washers And Seats?

Washers are usually used in old design types of faucets. Their function is to block water from dripping. A seat on the other hand is when a faucet handle is tightened compressing the washer against it.

Tub Faucet Repair Tips

In repairing a tub faucet, you will notice that there will be drips that you need to address to. With this, you will need to replace the washers and/or seats.

On the other hand, you will need to turn off the water from the main water line so that you can perform your tub faucet repair very well. By doing this, you are sure to fix your tub faucet by removing outer trims without hassle. In removing trims, make sure that you remove carefully the handle/s. The cap is removed thus exposing the screw, which you can take out afterwards. Handle/s should be removed next but should be done very carefully as this may stuck up. You may use pliers to assist you in taking out the needed pieces. After removing the handles, a sleeve or somewhat looks like it should be removed too.

Next, you can now deal with the valve system. You have to hold the handle back for some seconds and then try to half-open the valve. You are sure to take out pressure and thus help you with unscrewing of the pieces. Take note that you have to make sure you are opening the correct piece.

Once you have done this and you have found the washer being broken then you can assume that this may be the cause of the faucet leakage. You are now ready to purchase a new one.

You will also have to check the seats. They are the ones that are being tightened by the washer to ensure stoppage of water flow. You might also need to replace this just to ensure that you will not have to do any reworks.

After replacing such, you are now ready to put back all together the different pieces and after which, you can already use your tub faucet again.

Pest Problems in Your Attic

Sometimes I wonder how these large animals can get through such small holes in our homes and into our attics and crawlspace's. A few years ago, I was working on a home that had water damage to the siding that needed to be fixed. The homeowner of course didn't want anymore water damage and this required repairing roof, the original cause for the siding damage.

When I bid the job, I had no idea what I was about to run into. The first day on the job, went smoothly as I repaired some damage fascia board, but the next day I was in for a surprise, as I removed the damaged siding, I found what looked like dog poop in the attic.

I was looking around in the attic and trying to figure out how a dog could of got up there. I know that I shouldn't have, but I walked around the home inspecting it for a large hole, any holes, something that a small dog could have wiggled his way into. I got my latter off of the truck and then went on the roof, trying to find a place where a dog could have got into the attic.

I couldn't find any holes and after wasting about an hour, I decided it was time to get back to work and since the homeowner wasn't there, I couldn't show him my new findings or ask him any questions. I cleaned up the mess and repaired the water damaged siding, but in the back of my head I kept thinking about how in the heck a dog got up in the attic.

To make a short story even shorter, when the homeowner arrived home that day, I showed him my findings and he informed me that he didn't have a dog. He did however inform me that he has been hearing something walking around in his attic for about a year now. He had a pretty good idea that they were raccoons.

I told him, that I had inspected his home and only found one small hole on top of his roof underneath the roof eave, but there's no way that a small raccoon could fit through that hole. He told me that you would be surprised, what these animals were capable of squeezing into and out of.

Well that's about it, the mystery was solved, I repaired the small hole in the attic and have never heard from the homeowner again. Hopefully that meant I did my job well and not that he was embarrassed about the poop in the attic.

Wall Framing 2 x 4 Spacing Tips

Remodeling and building homes over the years I have seen all sorts of stud spacing measurements in bearing and non-bearing walls.

How far should we space a framing stud in a bearing wall?

Most plans will give you this information. If you have a structural shear wall the plans will tell you what size of lumber to use at the plywood breaks. The normal spacing on a bearing wall will be 16 inches on center unless otherwise noted on the building plans. This is the most common spacing for studs in a wall.

How far can we space framing studs in a nonbearing wall?

I have seen studs spaced as far as 24 inches on center in a nonbearing wall. Over the years looking at the building code books I have found this to be acceptable for most framing applications. Do not confuse a nonbearing walls with a structural shear walls because there is no weight sitting on the shear wall.

Interior structural shear walls will require 16 inch on center spacing or less depending on the structural engineer and your local building department.

What are the disadvantages of spacing the studs 24 inches on center?

Using half-inch drywall with 24 inch on center stud spacing can give the wall a week or spongy feel. I have been in houses that have 24 inch on center's stud spacing and can actually push the wall and see it move. Using 5/8 drywall will solve this problem in your walls.

What are the advantages of spacing the studs 24 inches on center?

The only advantage in spacing the studs farther apart is the fact you will be able to save a few dollars on the overall cost of building or remodeling your house. I personally do not recommend this process because the savings is miniscule compared to the overall cost of building the entire house.

If you look on a measuring tape between 19 and 20 inches you will usually find a little diamond. This little diamond is another measurement for laying out eight-foot walls or floors. So instead of using 16 inch on center layout you can use 19 1/4 for stud spacing. This will save you an additional stud in your wall or floor joist every 8 feet.

I have been writing more articles on home construction problems trying to help contractors and homeowners build safer stronger houses.

Home Filtration of Tap Water and Why You Need It

Home filtration of tap water is a necessary topic to learn about. If you are like I was a few months ago, you may not have given your tap water a second thought. I turned on the faucet and expected clean healthy refreshing drink. Little did I know, I needed a home filtration of tap water in order to assure myself of the healthy drink I expected.

Let me tell you some of the things I learned about the quality of our tap water.

Our H2O contains hundreds, even thousands of toxic chemicals. Our municipal companies are out dated and do not have the right equipment to effectively take out all contaminates in our drinking water.

The chlorine that is used to prevent water borne diseases is a threat to our heath. According to the U. S. Council of Environmental Quality, "Cancer risk among people using chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine products."

Since chlorine is the cheapest method for our municipalities to protect us against bacteria in our water, they continue to use it. And since they don't use a filtration method to remove the chlorine we need home filtration of tap water to protect us from the dangers of chlorine in our H2O.

Besides chlorine in our tap water, we also need to remove other contaminates like lead, pesticides, herbicides, pharmaceuticals drugs and a host of other dangerous chemicals that find their way into our drinking supplies. Anyone who drinks from what comes out of their kitchen faucet, is at risk for many diseases from heart trouble to cancer, even gastrointestinal illnesses, which we chalk up to stomach flu.

I'm sure no one reading this article would considering drinking from their bottle of week killer, but essentially when you turn on your faucet you could be consuming weed killers. Weed killers get into our water system from ground water runoff, and most cities filtering systems do not remove these contaminates before sending out drinking water to our houses.

Since the cities municipalities are not removing all of these dangerous substances it is up to us to protect ourselves by installing a home filtration of tap water to adequately purify what comes out of our faucets.

There are many types of home purification products on the market. They are effective and inexpensive. For the best system on the market the cost to purify a gallon of water is roughly 9 cents. The best system on the market can remove all the dangerous chemicals I've mentioned.

Now that I've explained why our H2O is contaminated hopefully you are ready to go shopping for a home purification system. Look for a system that combine various methods of filtration, so you will be sure the system you get will remove all contaminates from your water. The best system will combine carbon filtration, multi block filtration, sub micron filtration and an ion exchange to give you the best tasting healthiest water you can find.

Don't wait. Shop online today and find the best home filtration of tap water system available.

Soundproof Window Systems - Keep The Views, Lose The Noise

Windows are an essential feature of a homes appeal; they both add architectural interest to its exterior and open up the living space of its interior. View properties often have banks of windows to take advantage of their spectacular surroundings. Home office windows can have a tremendous positive affect on the mindsets of those who would otherwise feel somewhat stir-crazy from being confined to their computer workstations for hours at a time.

But light and scenery are not the only things which windows transmit; unwelcome outside noise often finds its way into a home through the windows. If you live in noisy surroundings, learning about the benefits of a soundproof window system may be of interest.

When You Really Need To Sleep

For those whose homes front on heavily traveled streets, getting an uninterrupted night of rest can be challenging. The ebb and flow of traffic sounds, especially if there is a stoplight nearby, can wreak havoc on the bodys ability to sink into the deep dream sleep cycle during which it repairs and replenishes itself.

For nighttime employees attempting to rest when the daytime traffic is at its peak, the noise entering a bedroom through its windows can make sleep impossible. But if each of those windows were to be replaced by a soundproof window, the sleep-destroying noise would, to a very large extent, be eliminated.

Some soundproof window makers promise as much as a 70% to 95% reduction in the transmission of exterior noise through their soundproof window. If you are someone struggling with the effects of sleep deprivation because of outside noise, you could find far worse ways to spend you money than on a soundproof window.

And youll enjoy an added benefit from each soundproof window installed in your home: energy efficiency. If a soundproof window is to perform effectively as a noise blocker, its casing must be attached to your homes wall so that the seal is absolutely without gaps or cracks.

Soundproof Window Installation

Embedding the casing in this manner means that a soundproof window not only keeps out noise, it prevents cold or hot air from penetrating your home and causing higher heating and cooling costs. A quieter home which saves money--and all from the same soundproof window!

The best thing about a soundproof window system, however, is its ease of installation. A soundproof window is placed in back of your existing window, and can be opened and shut in the same manner. There will be no labor expenses involved for taking out your current windows!

You can learn more about the styles and prices of soundproof window systems by doing an Internet search, or talking to a building contractor in your area.

You can also find more info on Soundproof Construction and Soundproof Curtain. Homesoundproofinghelp.com is a comprehensive resource to know about Sound Proofing.

How to Compare Low Cost Homeowner's Insurance in Oregon

While the state of Oregon does not require any homeowner to carry homeowners insurance, the vast majority of homeowners either elect to carry the insurance or are required to carry such insurance by the financial institution which holds their first mortgage.

One reason so many homeowners have homeowners insurance is simply because it makes so much economic sense. After all for most people their home is their biggest investment and it just makes good, sound financial sense to protect their investment with insurance.

The cost of homeowners insurance can vary widely from company to company, so the only real way to compare low cost homeowners insurance in Oregon is to get online and make head-to-head comparisons on one of the many websites designed specifically for that purpose.

But before you begin comparing prices there are a few things you need to do.

First, determine the true replacement cost of your home. Do not underestimate. If anything should happen to your home you want to be certain you have the money necessary to rebuild it. If you are not capable of determining the replacement cost of your house, find a professional who is. This could be a knowledgeable real estate agent or a building contractor.

Next, make sure your house has an adequate number of smoke and fire detectors and that they all work. Buy one or more fire extinguishers for your home. Make sure they are rated for kitchen fires. If you can afford it, install motion sensing lights outdoors and a burglar alarm for the inside of your home.

Make sure all doors have working deadbolt locks and make certain that all windows can be closed and locked this applies even to upstairs windows.

Make sure any trees close to your home are adequately trimmed so as not to break or fall over during high winds or heavy rains.

Anything you can do to make your house safer and less susceptible to fire and burglars will make it easier for you to compare and find low cost homeowners insurance here in the great state of Oregon.

Construction Cleanup Contractors

Working a construction job is a lot of work, with a lot of materials coming to and from the job. Metal pipes, nails, rebar, cuttings from two by fours, and worse all accumulate at a construction site. Getting them cleaned up is the job of a Construction Cleanup Contractor.

It used to be that you could clean up a construction site by showing up with a pickup truck and drive everything to the landfill. In today's more environmentally conscious age, that's no longer an easily attainable option. Construction cleanup contractors are well versed in the environmental, recycling and disposal requirements of construction materials in their jurisdiction.

In particular, a number of construction materials need special disposal. Copper pipe, and anything with lead in it (such as solder) need to be carefully policed to avoid contaminating any groundwater near the area. Likewise, fiberglass stocks (in particular, fiberglass insulation) and treated and tempered glass need special disposal permits to meet with environmental regulations. Your construction cleanup contractor will know how to do this.

A well run construction site has several phases of a project, from laying the foundation, all the way to finishing the interior walls. At each phase of the construction process are waste materials that need to be removed and placed off site for recycling or disposal. A construction cleanup contractor will help you with this critical part of the job, including improving your worksite safety and reducing the environmental impact of your construction job.

If you're considering becoming a construction cleanup contractor, the definitive book on the market to help you get started is Construction Cleanup: A Guide to an Exciting & Profitable Cleaning Specialty (Paperback), by Don Aslett. It's available from Amazon, and goes into great depth, covering what to clean, how to clean it, what stages of a project require which items of cleaning equipment, where to find construction cleanup jobs, how to bid on them, and over 16 pages of checklists for each phase of a construction job, so that when you do it, you leave no stone unturned, and turn your customers into repeat customers. Aslett is also the author of the Cleaning Encyclopedia, which is an alphabetical listing of how to clean just about anything - from industrial spills to getting cat urine out of carpet; in the final phases of a construction cleanup contractor's job, you'll want to know how to get the smells of paint and the like out of a job site, and the Cleaning Encyclopedia will help considerably.

In conclusion, whether you're building a home, or are looking to be a contractor constructing homes, knowing the phone number of a good construction cleanup contractor is an important part of managing any large project. Even better, if you're looking for a job with lifetime earning potential and the ability to be your own boss, working as a contractor, becoming a construction cleanup contractor is a pretty lucrative business to get into.

Commercial Contractor Referral Vs Residential Contractor Referral

Whether you are a commercial company or an individual who needs construction work or renovation done, there are contractors available to meet your particular needs. The completion of a remodeling or building project requires careful planning and implementation. Contractors will have the proper training and many years of experience. They have developed a network of reliable construction supply contacts and skilled workers who can get the job done on time and on budget.

The best place to obtain a quality contractor is through a referral company or service. Before enlisting a contractor's services you need to know what kind of contractor you will need for your work project.

Commercial Contractors: There are many aspects of commercial renovation and construction contractors that are different from residential contractors. Commercial contractors specialize in industry and business related buildings that can include: retail, hospitality, industrial, government, and apartment improvements. Commercial contractors must adhere to legal regulations instituted by the government and town or city. For instance, they have commercial codes that must be followed regarding commercial construction that includes plumbing, electrical wiring, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, emergency exit points, structural additions, renovation, repairs, and much more. Restroom requirements and restrictions are another consideration for commercial building plans. Commercial contractors will provide an estimate before you sign the work contract.

Residential Contractors: A residential contractor provides home and renovation services. They have the qualifications and experience to complete any home project such as: roofing, adding a room, renovating bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, etc. After the job is complete, they will take care of the clean up. They will provide an estimate before you sign the work contract.

Commercial and Residential Contractor referral services differ according to the targeted business. A commercial referral service will only list referrals who are involved with commercial projects. A residential referral service will list contractors who are involved with home based projects. Many referral services will offer both types of contractor referrals.

Online contractor referral services will provide verified, insured, and licensed contractor quotes for any type of project. Bringing homeowners and businesses together with contractors on a referral site will insure that both are dedicated to getting the job done accurately and at the best possible price. Homeowners and businesses can check the integrity and quality of a particular contractor by reading job evaluation responses from former customers. Contractors will bid on your project so that you can get a number of quotes to help you make a final decision about who you will hire. It is a great tool that will ensure you are getting quality and value for your money.

If you have a project that is either commercial or residential, all you have to do is post your project on an online contractor referral site. You will then start to receive bids from local contractors. Some sites also have an advance search feature that will allow you to locate the best contract for your particular new home construction, renovation, or commercial project. One of the best features of the service is that most online referral sites do not charge a fee for customers to post their projects.

A quality referral service will not require contractors to pay a fee to be listed on their site. This ensures that contractors are selected based on quality and competitive prices. As well, contractors will work hard to achieve high quality standards in order to maintain a great reputation.

Finding commercial and residential contractors has never been easier and quicker. By using a contractor referral service, you will rest easy knowing that you have spent your money wisely.

Fixings Squeaking Stairs in Older Homes

Oh yes the common problem of squeaking stairs in an older house. This could become very frustrating and annoying as you walk up and down the stairs. There seems to be one or two stair treads that are always squeaking. That annoying sound as you walk as softly as you can on your way down to the kitchen in the middle of the night to grab a quick snack.

The number one cause of squeaking stairs is when the nails used to fasten the stair tread to the stair strainers has worked its way loose. Over time as the lumber shrinks in the stair treads and the stairs stringers. You will start to develop a separation or a gap between the stair tread and the stair strainer.

The stair stringer can shrink as much as 3/8 of an inch in just a few years. I was building a home and went to measure the stair stringer that was 11 1/2 inches wide originally. Then I measured it after two months outside in the summer sun it now measured 11 1/16". I was amazed that the lumber could shrink that much in such a short period of time.

As the stair stringer shrinks it starts to pull away from the plywood or hardwood stair tread. As it starts to separate from the stair tread the nail will stay in its original position until the stair tread starts to put pressure on the nail eventually lifting it up a little bit higher than its original position.

As you step on the stair tread the squeaking sound you hear is the nail rubbing against the stair tread. There are a few ways to fix a squeaking stair tread. If you have access to under the stairway you can apply some adhesive along with a 10 inch 2 x 4 under the stair tread and attach it to the stair stringer.

First apply adhesive to two sides of the 2 x 4. The adhesive will be used to glue the stair tread to the stair stringer. You can use screws to screw the new 2 x 4 onto the side of the stair stringer.

If you cannot access the underside of the stairs and you have carpeting you can actually locate the stair stringer and drive a 2 inch screw through the carpeting in to the stair stringer. This will pull the stair tread down and will not allow it to rub up against the nail making that awful sound of a squeaking stair case.

If you have a finished wood stair tread you will not be able to screw through it into the stair stringer without damaging the finish on tread itself. It will be easier to access the stair stringer from below somehow and apply the 2 x 4 with the adhesive to stop the stair squeak.

You can apply these methods to as many stair treads that are squeaking without taking apart the entire staircase and rebuilding it.

Building Stairs With Old Concrete

What a great idea using your old side walk or driveway to build a nice stairway for your front or back yard. Using the old concrete instead of sending it to the landfill. Wow talk about earth friendly. Who would have thought that using recycled concrete would create a beautiful center piece in your landscaping plans.

That's enough about that lets get to the nuts and bolts of building the stairs. I came across the idea by visiting one of our favorite breakfast stops in Fallbrook. I had been walking down these stairs for quite a while when it dawned on me that the stairs where kind of jagged. When I took a closer look I couldn't figure it out, What kind of building materials did they use.

Then I realized it was recycled concrete in other words someone's old side walk. They even used the old concrete to make some nice planter boxes and retaining walls. The whole area really looks nice. The landscaping created natural look with a old world look to it.

How do I build the stairs using recycled concrete? Simply put first thing you need to do is get some recycled concrete. If you are going to be tearing up a old sidewalk, driveway or patio then you won't have to look far.

If not you can contact some local general or demolition contractors. They would love to have someone haul away their concrete. The reason for this is they have to pay around five hundred dollars for every ten tons hauled away from the jobs they are working on.

The more recycled concrete you need the easier it will be to get it. If you need a lot you will be able to contact a concrete recycling plant and get the phone number to a local contractor that hauls broken up concrete to their plants. These people can drop off a large load if you have a large area to drop it.

Remember that most contractors don't want to be bothered because they are busy working or planning on working. The easier you can make it on the contractor the more likely you will get what you want from them. They usually aren't interested in doing extra work just to make you happy. You can get a lot by being courteous from most people.

Now that you have the concrete you can start building. The concrete will be stacked on top of the other concrete to form the steps. Depending on how long of a stairway you are building you will have to level the dirt and stack the recycled concrete to make the stairs.

Six Steps to a Dry Basement - Homeowner Tips

A dry basement might be its own reward. If your basement is free of leaks, condensation and cracks, it'll be more amenable to a major basement remodeling effort (and you know you've always wanted a foosball table down there). It's a safer place to store old records and clothes (your kids need something to make fun of during your old age, right?). And a dry basement is inhospitable to toxic black mold, which can eat away at porous surfaces like wood and concrete, and cause serious health problems for you and your family.

While most of us might think of the underground sections of our homes as dark, dank places suitable for the third-act climax of a bad horror movie, avoiding a wet basement is probably easier than you think. Here are a few relatively simple steps to keeping your basement dry.

Make sure your rain gutters are completely free of debris. Rain gutters that can't carry rain away from the house tend to spill rain right out near the foundation, creating puddles that can eat away at the porous concrete over time. And if gutters empty themselves from a great distance in one spot, the falling water can create a depression in the ground that speeds wear and tear on the foundation. A good basement waterproofing contractor can install a French drain - a type of drainage system that draws water away from the house. A good French drain can't guarantee a dry basement, but it'll help eliminate one of the primary causes of leaks.

Keep the ground around your foundation sloped away from it. Obviously, this isn't the simplest thing to do; if you live on a hill, you're going to have to deal with water rolling downhill toward your home. But it's easy to find depressions near the foundation and fill them, so they don't fill with water when it rains.

Keep an eye on window and door seals. If these are caulked, go around at least once every six months with a caulk gun to reinforce them. Ideally, however, they should have a more secure sealant.

Keep a dehumidifier handy. If you hang clothes to dry in the basement, humidity might be a problem - and humidity in such an enclosed space can cause condensation. Keeping a dehumidifier isn't a magic bullet, but it can help if your basement moisture is coming from condensation and not seepage. But how can you tell the difference? It's fairly easy: If you have wet basement walls, find a spot that's particularly wet. Tape a section of aluminum foil to the wall, with tape around all the edges so it's airtight. Check in on it after a day or two: If the side on the inside is dry, you've got seepage. If the outside is dry, condensation is the more likely culprit.

If your house has an outdoor spigot, make sure it doesn't leak. A dripping spigot can create a concrete-eroding puddle with hardly any effort at all. If necessary, call a plumber to fix the leak - it'll be less expensive than repairing your foundation if the problem goes on too long.

Fix leaks the minute you discover them. You'll never have a dry basement if there's a constant leak. Basement moisture can come from a variety of sources; a leak has the benefit of being relatively easy to spot. A good basement waterproofing company can examine your basement to determine the type of leak you have, and recommend the best way to fix it. Look for a basement waterproofing contractor who gives a free estimate, and don't fall for any hard-sell tactics; a quality contractor will be completely honest, and give you time to make the best decision.
